MISSION STATEMENT Our Blue Ridge Retirees Chapter is a unique blend of former Chevron, Gulf ,Texaco and Caltex employees. The group is diversified in terms of past careers and areas of responsibilities. Our Chapter provides a framework of social exchange by providing regularly scheduled quarterly meetings. Our Chapter provides guest speakers at two of our meetings, an a picnic at the Etowah’s Reach Clubhouse, and a year ending Christmas luncheon.
HISTORY In February of 1993, Bill Holcombe (Our first Chapter President) held the initial meeting of our Blue Ridge Chapter at Shoney’s on Highway 146 in South Asheville (I think Shoney’s is now closed). Bill organized the Chapter and officers were installed at that time. A few years later Harry Williams became President and then in 1996 I became President. After my tenure Howard volunteered to take over and for the last nine years, he and Betty and John and Shirley Hammond have guided our Chapter through the organization and scheduling of our meetings. Howard stepped forward and took over the Chapter President position which provided the leadership to keep our Chapter going over all these years. He was very dedicated to the task of providing us with excellent meeting places, good speakers, good food, and most of all the companionship of our fellow members. We, as an organization, have been blessed with a good group of people. Being a former Past President myself, I know Howard felt this way as well, it is that we all appreciate and value the various backgrounds and talents of each our members. I say this with modest intent but we all thought we had the best Chapter in the National Organization and come to think of it we, still do!
Howard will be missed by all of us but his desire was to keep our Blue Ridge Chapter alive and active. It would be his wish that our members would continue to support our organization and unite and move forward with a positive outlook and desire to succeed!
Betty Runion (Chapter meeting 03/13/2012) has volunteered to become Chapter President and we all look forward to her guidance in this coming year.
