Our current CRA President, Mike Elgie, is retiring this annual meeting. One of the items he mentions is getting the new medical reimbursement account set up. If he can get his done, so can you. I know change is not easy and it seems this year that all we had is change.
Read the memories from fellow retirees. You might find that either you know the person, or you have been stationed there.

Blue Ridge Mountain Chapter News:
We have an interesting speaker for this meeting. He is the security person for PARI; he is Brad McCall. I asked him not because he is security, but in that he has been a part of this entity for a long time. In fact his Dad was here when this place belonged to the government.
What exactly is PARI; it is the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute. Its website is www.parti.edu for event details, for particularly, public events are subject to change.
May 8, 2017 a N.C. Highway Historical Marker was dedicated to recognize the role of the station in the country’s space history. It was once part of NASA.
It was important for at the beginning our communications were once not that good; the station had no radio frequency interruption plus it had clean air so it was the East Coast satellite tracking facility.
It communicated with satellites and the manned space flights as they passed over the East Coast. In 1981, the facility became a part of the Department of Defense and was used as a data collection station. By 1991, the station was outdated and although the instrumentation, antennae and electronics were removed, the infrastructure remained.
Don and Jo Cline acquired PARI in 1999 to serve as place to educate future scientists. And so it still does.
We still collect books for Ann McNutt’s County Library. I am part of a used book sale about the third week of June. I usually choose books the last sale day, for a box is sold at a very reasonable price.
We have had newcomer interest in our Chapter. So current members please come to visit with the newcomers. I believe this past meeting in March, we learned we had more geologists in our mist than we realized.
June Meeting is about learning what we do not know about the PARI development where once the government had a tracking station
